You're Not the One That I Want

Okay, it's Sunday night, and I have a confession to make. I really can't stand "Grease: You're the One That I Want." You know, that American-Idol type show that's going to let "us" choose the next Danny and Sandy for the Broadway revival of Grease.

I had such high hopes for it. I wanted to like it. I really, really did. The movie Grease came out when I was 12, and since then I've probably seen it two hundred times. I love the music, I love the story, I love clothes and the whole '50s gestalt. But I really hate this show.

I can't explain exactly what I hate about it. Maybe it's the vapid hosts. Who are these people? Billy Bush and Denise Van Outen?? I've never heard of them. Maybe I'm out of the loop, but I don't think so. This is going to be a Broadway show. Can't they at least get a couple of people who have actually starred on Broadway?

Or maybe it's the guy who wrote Grease. What a crankypants. And he's not even marginally cute, like Simon Cowell. He looks like a guy who would squirt kids with a garden hose for walking on his lawn.

But more than anything else, it's probably the complete and utter lack of talent. Are you telling me these are the best people you could find? Ugh. The most interesting contestant is Max Crumm, mostly because of his name. Can you imagine the posters? ...and starring MAX CRUMM as Danny Zuko!

So, count me out, YTOTIW. I've already cast my vote. I turned off the TV.
